Where to stay in Manali

Old Manali is the backpacker heart — cafes, riverside guesthouses and budget rooms, a short walk uphill from the town. Mall Road and Model Town are central and mostly mid-range, handy for buses and shops. The Hadimba temple road and the Aleo/Log Huts area are quieter, and the smartest resorts sit along the road toward Prini, Shuru and up toward Solang Valley.

Prices peak in May–June, when the plains empty into the hills, and again around Christmas–New Year for the snow. The cheapest months are the monsoon, July to September (landslide risk on the highway), and February–March once the winter rush passes. Weekends and Himachal school holidays lift rates noticeably; travelling midweek is the simplest way to save.

Manali hotel FAQs

Where should I stay in Manali?

Old Manali for cafes and budget stays, Mall Road/Model Town for a central mid-range base near transport, and the Prini–Solang road for resorts with mountain views if you have your own vehicle.

When are hotels in Manali cheapest?

July to September (monsoon) and February–March. Avoid May–June and the Christmas–New Year week, when demand and rates are at their highest.

Is Old Manali or New Manali better value?

Old Manali has more genuinely budget rooms and hostels; New Manali (Mall Road area) has more mid-range hotels but at higher central-location prices. Midweek stays are cheaper in either.
