Where to stay in Munnar

Staying in Munnar town is the cheapest and most convenient option for the bus stand and shops, though rooms are basic and the centre gets congested. For the tea-garden views most people come for, the resorts are 10–25 km out — around Chinnakanal and Anachal toward Top Station, or Pothamedu and Attukad closer in. Marayoor and Suryanelli are remote and premium.

Peak season runs September to March, busiest over Christmas and, in the years it blooms, the Neelakurinji. Rates fall in April–May and through the monsoon, June to August, when Munnar is misty and the waterfalls are full — a green, low-cost time to visit if you don't mind rain. Out-of-town resorts often include meals; factor that in when comparing prices.

Munnar hotel FAQs

Should I stay in Munnar town or outside it?

Town for the cheapest rooms and easy transport; 10–25 km out (Chinnakanal, Pothamedu, Anachal) for the tea-estate and valley views, usually at resorts that include meals.

When are Munnar hotels cheapest?

April–May and the monsoon months of June to August. September–March is peak, with the highest rates over Christmas–New Year.

Is it worth visiting Munnar in the monsoon?

Yes for the scenery and low prices — the hills are lush and the waterfalls are at their best — but expect heavy rain, mist that hides the views on some days, and occasional road delays.
