Where to stay in Nainital

Mallital and Tallital sit at either end of Naini Lake and hold most of the hotels, both within walking distance of the Mall Road. Lake-facing rooms on the Mall carry the highest prices. The Ayarpatta and Sherwani Hill slopes are quieter with hillside views, and Pangot and Kilbury, about 15 km out, are forest-and-birding retreats.

Rates peak from April to June, over Christmas–New Year for the chance of snow, and on every long weekend, when Nainital gets very crowded and the Mall is closed to traffic in the evenings. The monsoon (July–September) and February are the cheapest times. If lakeside hotels are full or overpriced, the Ayarpatta side is usually cheaper for a short walk more.
