Where to stay in Ooty

Ooty's Charing Cross and town centre have the most budget-to-mid hotels and the easiest access, but get crowded in season. Coonoor, a smaller hill town about 20 km away, is quieter with colonial bungalows and better air. Fernhill and the Havelock Road area hold the heritage and premium properties, and Lovedale and the Ketti valley have secluded resorts.

Peak periods are April to June and October, plus the Christmas–New Year week and long weekends, when Ooty fills up and rates and traffic both jump. The monsoon (July–September) and February are the cheapest and calmest times. If the town feels overbooked for your dates, Coonoor usually has availability at lower prices.
