Where to stay in Udaipur

The most atmospheric base is the Old City around Lake Pichola — Lal Ghat and Hanuman Ghat — where rooftop restaurants and heritage guesthouses look straight onto the water and the City Palace. It is walkable but pricier and vehicle access is limited. Fateh Sagar Lake, a little north, is quieter with more mid-range hotels, and the areas near the bus stand and highway are the cheapest.

October to March is peak season, and Diwali sees the sharpest rates of the year. Prices drop from April to June, when it is very hot, and during the monsoon, when the lakes fill and the city turns green — a scenic, good-value time to visit. Lake-view rooms carry a premium; a room one street back is often much cheaper for the same location.

Udaipur hotel FAQs

Where is the best place to stay in Udaipur?

The Old City around Lake Pichola (Lal Ghat, Hanuman Ghat) for lake and palace views within walking distance of the sights; Fateh Sagar for a quieter, more affordable lakeside base.

When are Udaipur hotels cheapest?

April to June, in the heat, and during the monsoon. October–March is peak season and Diwali week is the most expensive time of year.

Is a lake-view room in Udaipur worth it?

It is the city's signature experience, but the premium is steep on peak weekends. A non-view room in the same Old City guesthouse gives you the same location and walkability for much less.
