Where to stay in Rishikesh

Tapovan, near Laxman Jhula, is the traveller hub — yoga schools, cafes and budget-to-mid rooms. Ram Jhula and Swarg Ashram, across the river, are the quieter, ashram-and-temple side, largely vegetarian and alcohol-free. The upscale riverside camps and resorts are strung along the road toward Shivpuri, the rafting put-in, and toward Neelkanth.

Rates are highest from February to May and again September to November, with a spike during the International Yoga Festival in March. Rafting closes from mid-June to September, so the monsoon is the cheapest and quietest time, and December–January is low season because of the cold. Riverside camps price by the season and by weekday versus weekend.

Rishikesh hotel FAQs

Where should I stay in Rishikesh?

Tapovan (near Laxman Jhula) for cafes, yoga and the widest choice of budget-to-mid stays; Ram Jhula / Swarg Ashram for a quieter ashram atmosphere; the Shivpuri road for riverside camps and rafting.

When are Rishikesh hotels and camps cheapest?

During the monsoon, mid-June to September, when rafting is closed and crowds thin out, and in December–January's cold low season. Spring and autumn are peak.

Can you get a riverside stay in Rishikesh on a budget?

Riverside camps are mostly mid-range and up, and priciest on weekends. For a budget riverside feel, look at guesthouses on the Tapovan side that overlook the Ganga rather than the formal tented camps.
